LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT COACHING

Coaching the Abrasive Manager

You are a senior leader or human resource leader who knows you have to do something about the abrasive and disruptive conduct of a manager in your organization. You are hearing complaints from people about the manager’s destructive and toxic behaviors that are eroding trust, impacting employee performance and health, and may be creating an organizational liability.

You see the impact of the manager’s abrasive behavior in:

  • Increased conflict and competition within work groups,
  • Increase in sick leave and stress leave absences, transfer requests and turnover,
  • More frequent grievance filings,
  • Elevated legal or mediation costs,
  • Shrinking productivity.

So how do you approach the problem?

According to research, leaders who behave abrasively often lack self-awareness, the ability to control their emotions, and lack effective management and positive people skills. The manager may not have received effective feedback or know what to do differently.

Our unique, evidence based coaching program gives managers the chance for professional development. In 6-8 coaching sessions, the manager learns, often for the first time, exactly what behaviors are creating high distress.

The manager is coached on how to respond with more effective behaviors and engages people with positive impact.

Everyone involved sees the benefits – the organization, the abrasive leader, the work unit, and, of course, you, who have the responsibility to do something about it.

Contact us to discuss your specific needs and how the Coaching Program for Abrasive Managers can give you an exciting new option for professional development.

Coaching for Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence (EQ) 67% of all competencies determined to be essential for high performance in the workplace are related to emotional intelligence. High EQ reverses ineffective communications that disrupt relationships. It is a key leadership skill that builds strong collaborative teams, diffuses conflict, ignites engagement, and creates a positive work environment.

The EQ-360 assessment tool is ideal for use in organizations where effective communication between individuals, teams, and the entire organization is crucial to success. The EQ-360 identifies key employee strengths that can be leveraged to the organization’s benefit, as well as areas that could be improved. The assessment process can be repeated at intervals to monitor progress.

The EQ 360 Report contains the client's own self-reported results, as well as the ratings of others belonging to various rater groups, such as peers, direct reports, friends, and family.

Format: Online administration and scoring for EQ-360 - 30 minutes, plus. Two 2-hour coaching sessions or more as needed for application and follow-up.

Testimonial

As a managing partner in a complex business, I faced meetings where I had to negotiate, work through conflict, and deal with bullying conduct. I had too many unproductive meetings with lost time and money so I hired Susan as an executive coach to help me navigate these situations. Great decision to do this. She was fun to work with. I learned the knowledge and skills I needed to stop conflict from escalating and reach high quality decisions. Highly recommend her services.
